lyrics

My daughter came home from school the other day and asked me,
“Daddy, who are the terrorists?” And I said,
They’re the people who paint color into all the flowers.

My daughter came home from school the other day and asked me, “Daddy, why are there terrorists?”
And I said, Well if the flowers didn’t have color,
people wouldn’t know how god damn dreadful they smell.

Hold me close,
Let your eyes disappear.
Bury your head,
Into my chest
Zero fear
Well fall back
Past reflections in the bedroom mirror
I picked you up
You place your cheek
Against my ear

It must be hard growing up
In tiny screens always blinking
It must be hard to find out
That the candy earth is sinking
It’s not too hard to give up
On the leaders that are dealing
It’s not too hard to give up
On a system void of feeling

My daughter came home from school the other day, yeah, she did it again, she told me,
“Daddy, i am scared of the terrorists.”
And I said, darling, climate change is destroying the planet
and all the flowers with it.
All those terrorists are gonna be, unemployed little piss ants, real soon.
